I arrived to the United States from Cuba around 1963, they called it the freedom flights. I believe we were one of the last flights to arrive. We were taken to a building in Downtown Miami, that today the Cubans that arrived around that time refer to it as Cielito Lindo, that means beautiful skies. We did not have luggage or any personal belongings. From there we moved to New York and I lived there until I was about 13 years old. My father was a superintendent and my mother was a seamstress. After living in NYC we moved to Miami, Florida around 1973. Being raised in extremely poor conditions, I can definitely tell you that my brother and I were taught integrity, honesty and character.
In 1979 I joined the United States Army, one of the most proud things I’ve ever done. Joining at such a young age I can definitely tell you that’s where I became a man. I highly suggest for any young person to join the military. The United States has the greatest armed forces in the world.
Once my contract was over, I came back home to Miami and started working at UPS as a truck driver. I worked there for three years and then in 1988 I opened up my own shop where I would do mechanical work on boats. In 1989 I was involved in a serious race boat accident where my buddy died, from there I took over the boat company and met my wife in 1990 married and we married shortly after.
My wife is Susana Anzardo. We had a very small boat manufacturing plant which later grew to have over 265 dealers worldwide. We had two very large factories in Texas and Florida.
My wife and I have worked with many different charity projects. When we had the boat company we made and donated medical ambulance boats to save refugees coming over from Cuba for an organization called Cuban American Pilots. We have also been very active with our local church. There we have served in many ministries including feeding the homeless, marriage counseling, and coordinating relief efforts in times of need.
When hurricane Andrew hit Florida, we drove to Homestead to provide food, clothing and supplies to families in need. When hurricane Irma hit the Florida Keys, we were there to assist them with water and whatever was needed. When hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas, we collected food, supplies and clothing for them, and did several relief missions to Freeport.
In short, I have worked with various organizations that provide relief supplies. Now, I am so excited to continue with my mission through
OneSource Contractor. Growing up and living in the midst of hurricanes have given me experience and perspective on how to respond to those natural disasters. Belonged to the Army and being 100% veteran owned. Company, has given me the impetus to continue helping our people and those who need it most.
